At-Home Newborn Photography in the Fraser Valley: Capture Your Family’s Story

Claudia Wyler Photography specializes in capturing those raw, authentic emotions through storytelling photography, all in the comfort of your home. Here’s why having your family newborn photos taken at home is so meaningful.

The Beauty of At-Home Newborn Family Photography

Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of life’s most precious milestones. These fleeting moments of love, connection, and tenderness deserve to be preserved forever. I specialize in capturing those raw, authentic emotions through storytelling photography, all in the comfort of your home. Having your family newborn photos taken at home is so meaningful as it shows your true authentic selves.

A Safe and Comfortable Space for Your Family

Your home is your sanctuary—a place where you and your family feel the most comfortable and authentic. By choosing to have your newborn family session at home, you eliminate the stress of traveling to a studio, packing diaper bags, or worrying about forgotten essentials. Your home provides a relaxed environment that allows your family’s true essence to shine through.

A Unique Chapter in Your Family’s Story

Each family’s story is unique, and your home is the perfect backdrop to tell it. From the nursery you so lovingly decorated to the cozy living room where you share family moments, your home adds layers of meaning to your photos. These aren’t just portraits; they’re pieces of your story.

Storytelling photography focuses on capturing the authentic connections within your family. My approach is to document the intimate and tender moments: the way you cradle your newborn, the laughter shared between siblings, or the gentle squishy kiss from a proud older sibling. These unscripted moments hold so much power and beauty.

Capturing the Small, Meaningful Details

In the whirlwind of welcoming a newborn, it’s easy to overlook the small details. The tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the delicate yawn, or the way your baby fits perfectly in your arms. These fleeting moments are what I strive to capture. Photographing these details in your home’s natural light adds an extra layer of warmth and authenticity.

For families in the Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford and surrounding areas, at-home newborn sessions provide the convenience and personal touch that busy parents appreciate. Your photos will not only reflect your unique family dynamics but also highlight the beauty of your surroundings.

The Timeless Value of Storytelling Photography

Years from now, when your baby is all grown up, these photos will transport you back to the early days. The joy, the exhaustion, the love—every emotion you felt will come flooding back. Storytelling photography isn’t about creating perfectly posed images; it’s about freezing time and preserving the memories that truly matter.

Ready to Capture Your Family’s Story?

If you’re ready to create timeless, meaningful newborn family photos in your home, I would be honored to be part of your journey. My goal is to craft images that tell your unique story—moments you’ll treasure forever.

Reach out today to book your at-home newborn session in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, or wherever you are located. Let’s create something beautiful together.

As families grow and time passes, the importance of documenting memories becomes more apparent. Family photos help to preserve your legacy—offering future generations a glimpse into who you were during that moment of time.

Why Family Photos Are So Valuable

Family photos are more than just images; they are powerful memories that hold deep emotional significance. In today’s fast-paced world, moments seem to pass by in the blink of an eye, making it more important than ever to capture those special moments. For your children, these photos will serve as cherished memories—connecting them to their roots, preserving the love you share, and helping them feel a sense of belonging as they grow.

Cherishing Precious Moments

Every family has unique stories—filled with laughter, shared adventures, and quiet moments that shape who you are. Family photos freeze those fleeting moments, allowing your children to look back and relive memories they might otherwise forget. These images reflect not only how you looked but how you loved, creating visual stories that remind your family of the happiness and connection they share.

Creating a Legacy

As families grow and time passes, the importance of documenting memories becomes more apparent. Family photos help to preserve your legacy—offering future generations a glimpse into who you were during that moment of time. These photos become treasured keepsakes that capture the essence of your family story, allowing you to pass down traditions, love, and cherished memories through the years.

Your Family Session

An outdoor family session with me is all about capturing the real, unfiltered moments that make your family uniquely yours. You can expect plenty of laughter, connection, and play as we explore the natural beauty around us. Whether it’s running through forest trails, skipping rocks by the river, or simply sharing a quiet moment under the trees, I focus on creating a relaxed, fun environment where you and your kids can just be yourselves. My goal is to document the genuine interactions, the in-between moments, and the love that shines through, so you walk away with images that feel as special as your family truly is.

Highlights of a Family Session

  • Capture Genuine Moments: Family sessions are about more than posing—they’re about capturing the true spirit of your relationships. From playful interactions to quiet moments of connection, these candid photos reflect the love and joy that make your family unique.

  • The Beauty of Nature: The outdoors in any season really is a breathtaking backdrop for your photos, Chilliwack in particular offers vibrant greenery, serene rivers, and peaceful trails that enhance the visual beauty of your portraits.

  • Create Lasting Memories: These sessions provide more than just photos—they create experiences. You’ll walk away with images that bring back the warmth and connection you feel as a family when you are together, creating lasting memories to cherish for years to come.

Overcoming Hesitation

It’s normal to feel hesitant about scheduling a family photo session—whether it’s coordinating busy schedules, feeling camera-shy, or just unsure of what to expect. But the truth is, family photos aren’t about perfection; they’re about connection. The real beauty lies in capturing authentic moments—how you interact, laugh together, and support one another.

Even when you feel like skipping it, remember: your children will look back on these memories long after the moment has passed. They’ll want to see not just how you looked, but how you loved—how you shared joy, celebrated together, and grew as a family over the years.

Ready to create timeless memories with your family?

Let’s book your family session! I cannot wait to capture the love, laughter, and connection that defines your family. Don’t let these moments slip away—preserve them forever.

Langley Prom Photographer | Pitt Lake Prom and Graduation Photos | Kyla & Family

graduates it’s prom season!

Make sure to get in touch soon as my 2023 Prom calendar is booking up fast!

Prom photos are important because they capture a significant moment in your life and provide a tangible memory of this special occasion- it is an opportunity to celebrate you, your accomplishments and just how amazing you look on your special day!

Bonus it just may replace that awkward childhood photo your parents and grandparents have on their walls!

I met up with Kyla and her family at Pitt Lake a couple of weeks before her actual prom day. This gave her family an opportunity to relish in her amazing accomplishments and celebrate her. We took photos together as a family, including her grandparents and then some with just Kyla. Then her dad, who was her soccer coach throughout her childhood, insisted on some soccer photos. This amazing girl whipped off her heals and started volleying the ball back and forth with her dad like there was nothing to it! That was a first for me but I am so glad I was able to capture that special moment for them.

I love incorporating items that capture a student's personality and interests. I am always open to you choosing a hobby, sport, or other activity to include in your prom and graduation photos, this is such an amazing way to showcase who you are and what you have accomplished during your high school years. I have captured many things to date but most memorable was a wakeboarding session in a graduation gown and hiking to a waterfall to play violin in a prom dress!

Let’s chat and get your prom & Graduation sessions booked!

Mission Graduation and Prom Photographer | Mission Backyard Session | Jasmine & Family

Prom and Graduation is a milestone event in many teenagers' lives, it marks the end of their high school years and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. It is an opportunity for them to celebrate their accomplishments and look forward to their future.

Mission PROM AND GRADUATION PHOTOGRAPHER

CAPTURING THE MOMENTS THAT MATTER IN ABBOTSFORD, Mission, Chilliwack and surrounding communities.

It’s that time of year again, Spring is in the air and Prom season is about to be in full swing and I cannot wait to capture this milestone for this years graduates. Prom and Graduation is a milestone event in many teenagers' lives, it marks the end of their high school years and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. It is an opportunity for them to celebrate their accomplishments and look forward to their future. I met Jasmine’s parents briefly over a decade ago through a work friend and remember meeting Jasmine as a baby, so it was quite a lovely surprise to have her mom reach out to me so many years later to capture this huge milestone in her daughters life. I met up with them a few hours before Jasmine had to leave for prom to capture her all dressed up and of course to capture some memorable family photos on their property in Mission, BC.

I always encourage my grads and their parents/guardians that having Prom photos with each other is so important, it is definitely not just about the graduate, if you show up to your child’s prom photos, expect to be in at least a few of the shots!

Here are some reasons why:

  1. Family Memories: Prom is a significant event in a teenager's life, and including parents/guardians in prom photos helps create family memories. Parents and Guardians are often the ones who supported their child through their high school years, and taking photos together can be a way to celebrate this special moment.

  2. Capturing Special Moments: Prom photos can capture special moments that might not be captured otherwise. Parents often hold sentimental value to these moments and treasure them for years to come and having a tangible photo to commemorate their baby growing up and graduating is a moment that will be treasured for years to come.

  3. Showing Gratitude: Prom is often an expensive event, and parents and guardians often bear the brunt of this cost and including your family in your prom photos is a way to suck it up and show them how much you love and appreciate their support during your teenage years. I promise it will be far less painful than watching your parents/guardians and grandparents try and work their cell phone to get the shot!

  4. Overall, prom photos with your family can be an important way to create memories, capture special moments, show gratitude, and continue traditions. These photos will be cherished by both the graduate and their family for years to come.

As we were wrapping up our prom photo session Jasmine’s school bus drove by. It was such a bittersweet moment to end our session on as it marked the end of a chapter in her life. I was choking back the tears as I am sure her parents were too. Congratulations Jasmine! Wishing you all the best in your future!

FAMILY IS NOT AN IMPORTANT THING.

IT’S EVERYTHING. - Michael J. Fox

Truer words could not be spoken, thanks Michael. Really though, when was the last time you had photos done with your parents? With your siblings? With your kids cousins? I wish I had this but with my entire family outside of my parents all living overseas it makes it next to impossible, you know cause of Covid-19 and all. So thankful I saw my big brother in January before this all hit.

This extended family is also an International family coming all the way from South Africa to visit and I am am so glad that they were able to coordinate lives and schedules to spend some time with me capturing their love for each other. Grandpa and Grandma and Pepper too, are going to be thrilled to hang these photos up around their home. The Vedder River in Chilliwack is one of my most favourite areas to do family sessions, especially extended family photos- the mountains, the raging river, the greenery, its all just so beautiful!

Family is the one constant element in life - Unknown

Extended family sessions are quickly becoming one of my favourite sessions to photograph! They are loud, chaotic, and filled with life- just the way I love it. I use to be terrified of extended family sessions but after four years of photographing family photos at weddings and dealing with everything from Grandpa telling me he thinks he’s at the wrong wedding half way through photos (true story- ask me about it), to missing brothers and screaming toddlers, to where did Uncle Simon go- nothing seems to phase me anymore!

When the {B} Family approached me about doing their extended family photos I was ecstatic, they forwarned me of the rambunctious boys who may not listen, to their dad who they were doing the photos for, but may be wary and of not being able to share all the photos due to one member not being comfortable with an online presence- which to me is a no brainer. I am not the photographer that will post photos without a model release, nor will I ever charge you extra for a non disclosure agreement. Photographs are there to understand what our lives mean to us, they are for you, not for me. If you aren’t comfortable with a full model release- fine, if you want to pre approve photos and select the ones for me to post online- that is fine too. My career as a social worker has taught me that confidentiality is everything, so please know your photos will always be safe with me.

After a few emails back and forth, and ensuring we had all 3 family units schedules coordinated with mine we headed out to Pitt Lake, BC for an amazing evening spent admiring the mountains, chasing grasshoppers, tons of giggles, snuggles and an epic sword fight, it truly was an amazing evening. Thanks for choosing me to capture your amazing crew {B} Family!

The Unruh’s

I photographed this amazing family in their home in early November in Chilliwack, BC.

Stacy and Mike have trusted me to capture their family for the past few years now and I absolutely adore spending time with them and their girls.  During their recent Day in the Life Session we took 20 minutes to update their family pictures for Stacy’s galley wall in her dining room.  I adore that we didn’t leave the comforts of their home and all these pictures were captured in their own backyard.  Family pictures don’t have to be uncomfortable or stressful, they just have to be you.

Vancouver Documentary Photographer| Day in the Life Session| Katherine, Shane & Tig

Chilliwack Day In the Life

Documentary Photographer

When Katherine approached me about photographing her family on one of their last Saturday’s in their home before relocating out of Vancouver, BC my heart just about burst. THIS is the type of session that makes my heart soar. Day In The Life Sessions tell the story of you and your everyday life by capturing your day in pictures.

It’s the little things that make a house a home and Katherine gets it. She described wanting the first home they had with their daughter captured, the day to day things they do- preserved- and the memory of their time here saved for her daughter to look back on when she is older.  I arrived at their East Vancouver home mid morning just in time to capture a quick play date that had been arranged with some dear friends prior to a routine walk in their neighborhood and brunch at one of their favourite local eateries, The Red Wagon. The day was filled with exploration, play time, a quick nap and pasta making and then after Shane left for work Katherine and Tig closed out the evening with a sweet ceremony honouring their home and their time in it.

So much love and little moments that allowed time to be frozen, if just for a minute, before everything changes. Life in East Vancouver filled with cool shops, amazing eateries and a steady stream of close friends dropping by has been left behind for new adventures in the mountains for this family, and I cannot wait to go and visit them again, once they are all settled in their new digs.

Chilliwack Family Photographer | Day in the Life Documentary Session | This is Us | The Denham's

Day in the Life Family Documentary Session

Chilliwack Family Photographer

I spent the morning with The Denham's in Chilliwack, BC capturing them as they are. I know so many people with kids in that late child, early tween stage that continually tell me that family pictures are so boring or not needed at this stage- wait what?! I adore them so! They are truly so much fun! I adore just hanging out with families and capturing them as they are. From pjs and breakfast to video games and a trip to the Skate park- we did it all. Are our day to day lives always pretty? Nope, but they are our lives and they are beautiful and messy and chaotic and that's okay. There is beauty in us, just as we are.

With all of the changes that occur during those middle years of being a kid to being a teen, this really is the prime time to capture your kids. These Day in the Life sessions capture those unique facial expressions and interests that highlight that fine line between being a kid and growing into a teenager.

Day In the Life Documentary sessions document who your kids are TODAY… in all its glory because my word it’s changing SO fast!  They also boost your children’s confidence- your kids will feel like a Rockstar having me follow them around photographing them doing the things THEY like to do! Kids often think they are too cool for their picture to be taken but I promise your kids will think its a novelty and super cool and will be yelling at me to photograph them doing all sorts of things. Trust me! It is all about Self-Expression… they get to wear what they want, bring what they want and go where they want, during our entire session. They want to meet up with friends, or have some friends drop in during our time- awesome! The more the merrier, lets document the days where friendships really begin and BFF is every other word in their vocabulary.

Chilliwack Family Photographer| Day In the Life Family Documentary Session | This is Us | The Unruh's

Chilliwack Family Photographer- This Is Us- Family Documentary Photographer- I photographed this amazing family in their home in early November in Chilliwack, BC. I love shooting in home documentary photography family sessions as it allows me to capture families as they are. I get to follow you around with my camera and capture the laughter, the tears, the in between moments, the goof ball moments and the utter chaos that surrounds our lives as we go about our everyday lives.s So what do we do in these type of documentary family sessions? Anything you want!

Can I just say how much I love repeat clients?! Especially the ones that love capturing their lives through a documentary perspective. Gah it gives me all the feels. I have photographed this amazing family a handful of times now, first their oldest daughter’s wedding, then back to school portraits for their youngest two daughters, and now the most amazing in home documentary session as they prepare for a new phase in their lives. This family was planning a move from their family home this Fall to purchase a home in a neighbourhood closer to their children’s school. As a result they knew they needed to have their lives documented in their home prior to moving. Stacy spoke of her love of watching the girls playing outside from her kitchen window and how Mike was usually out there with them and her desire to have all of this captured. We all have that one place in our homes that is special and dear to us. For Stacy it was her families outdoor space looking out onto the protected green belt- they even have their very own COYOTE den in the back field- EEK! Alas, those Coyotes didn’t come out to play while i was there- I guess they are camera shy!

I absolutely adore this family and their love for each other, the girls are funny, witty, smart and love with their whole hearts, and had me in stitches most of the time with their goofiness. These girls are FUN! They have great imaginations, are super sporty and love performing- they routinely put on dance shows and plays for their parents in the living room as part of their nightly routine. Both Stacy and I recall doing this exact same thing when we were kids for our parents. I guess there is something about needing an audience to show off your talents!

Day in the Life Family Documentary Session

Langley Family Photographer

I photographed Kelsey and Chris' afternoon with their three rambunctious boys in their home in Langley, BC.  I met up with them for after school pick up of their two oldest boys and I followed them home on their typical route to document through photos and film what this time in their life looks like.   We hung out at home and the boys played and showed off their amazing lego creations to me.   Kelsey spent some time sewing and I was so excited to be able to include her love for sewing as part of their session.  Kelsey is an extremely creative and talented sewer and you can see her amzing creations throughout their family film.

This family absolutely stole my heart, especially the youngest lil' munchkin cause whose favourite thing isn't eating candy and watching TV as he explains in their family film.   Later on in the afternoon after the boys had played and done their homework we took a stroll back to the school to burn off that evening energy that boys always seem to have an abundance of as it nears bedtime.    As the boys energy winded down we settled back home for some games and pizza, a perfect ending to their Day in the Life Family Film session.
