Backyard Barn Wedding | Chilliwack Wedding Photographer

A small intimate Wedding Ceremony with family on a friends farm.

Langley Barn Wedding Dancing couple

Things didn’t go exactly as Katy and Dustin had planned for their big day, but none of us were expecting a pandemic when we chatted last as I took their sunrise engagement photos on a frosty November morning, that is for sure. Yet here we were on a gorgeous warm and sunny day in May, in the midst of a global pandemic, as Katy and Dustin said their vows to each other. The old hay loft at their family friends barn was absolutely perfect in so many ways and Dustin and Katy couldn’t stop smiling at each other. I had the best time playing peek a boo with Katy’s nieces, who I had previously photographed during a family session, and chit chatting with Dustin’s siblings who I also got to photograph during the summer at their sisters wedding! You will quickly understand why this whole clan is starting to feel like family to me! I think the best part of the day was the secret wedding parade their family members planned for them- they had NO IDEA! It was the most amazing parade of family and friends honking, holding signs, balloons and farm vehicles- sorry Dustin I have no idea what that massive tractor you are so in love with is called- but I am pretty sure short of actually marrying Katy, it was the favourite part of your day! In fact I have no doubt that photo is enlarged and framed somewhere in your home by now.

Katy and Dustin, I wish you both every happiness in life together and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for you both.

2020 You Were Good to Us

2020 YOU WERE GOOD TO US

To be....
Intentional.

If this year has taught me anything it has been this.

Last year, this time, I was almost at my breaking point. Exhaustion was my constant state and I needed a break from anything and everything that resembled my normal life, I desperately just needed a minute to catch my breath. I broke free of my day to to day cycle and took off to Colombia, for a trip that taught me to let go, to say yes, and to embrace my fear of losing control.

On my first day of 2020, while in Colombia, I saw a quote painted on the wall in a tiny little bar. It hit me hard at the time (that or that was the best damn Mojito I’ve ever had), yet the actual force of impact that 2020 would put upon us to ensure we took hold of it, this quotes actual meaning, was yet unknown.

BE HAPPY FOR THIS MOMENT.

THIS MOMENT IS YOUR LIFE.

I tried hard to embrace this feeling, some days came easier than others, and some weeks it was totally forgotten. I did my best to say yes more, to embrace life more, to not be so critical of myself and others and to free myself even just a little bit from the shackles of rules and self criticism I’ve lived by for so many years.

To say 2020 was freeing is an understatement, I’m a work in progress but you know what, despite this damn pandemic, 2020 was a good year.

Thank you to everyone that trusted me to capture your memories, your stories, your moments, your life in 2020. I cannot wait to see what 2021 holds for us all cause if it’s anything like 2020 it’s gonna be one heck of a ride!!

I meant to do a 366 Project- where you take one photo every day- but that puts way too much pressure on me, so I just documented intentionally when it suited me and I am glad I did as it actually allowed me to finish the year, instead of admitting defeat. Also for the first time ever I allowed myself to use cel phone photos and my trusty little go pro when i didn't feel like taking out my actual camera. 2020 was a hell of a year but one I don't want to forget, pandemic and all. Starting the year off traveling in Colombia was the most amazing way to start off 2020 and the tradition of spending New Years away from home is something I hope to be able to continue in the future.

PITT LAKE | JEFF and JAI | CHILLIWACK ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER

A gorgeous evening spent with Jai and Jeff exploring the gorgeous Coquitlam Mountain range and Pitt Lake in Maple Ridge, BC.

Jai and Jeff were guests at a wedding I photographed at Eighteen Pastures last summer for friends of theirs. I was absolutely thrilled when they approached me to photograph their upcoming wedding. They were up to anything for their engagement photos so after giving them some options they chose Pitt Lake as they had never been there before and they fell instantly in love. How can you not with those beautiful mountain ranges!

Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.

FAMILY IS NOT AN IMPORTANT THING.

IT’S EVERYTHING. - Michael J. Fox

Truer words could not be spoken, thanks Michael. Really though, when was the last time you had photos done with your parents? With your siblings? With your kids cousins? I wish I had this but with my entire family outside of my parents all living overseas it makes it next to impossible, you know cause of Covid-19 and all. So thankful I saw my big brother in January before this all hit.

This extended family is also an International family coming all the way from South Africa to visit and I am am so glad that they were able to coordinate lives and schedules to spend some time with me capturing their love for each other. Grandpa and Grandma and Pepper too, are going to be thrilled to hang these photos up around their home. The Vedder River in Chilliwack is one of my most favourite areas to do family sessions, especially extended family photos- the mountains, the raging river, the greenery, its all just so beautiful!

Chilliwack Extended Family Photographer| The {B} Family | Pitt Meadows, BC

Family is the one constant element in life - Unknown

Extended family sessions are quickly becoming one of my favourite sessions to photograph! They are loud, chaotic, and filled with life- just the way I love it. I use to be terrified of extended family sessions but after four years of photographing family photos at weddings and dealing with everything from Grandpa telling me he thinks he’s at the wrong wedding half way through photos (true story- ask me about it), to missing brothers and screaming toddlers, to where did Uncle Simon go- nothing seems to phase me anymore!

When the {B} Family approached me about doing their extended family photos I was ecstatic, they forwarned me of the rambunctious boys who may not listen, to their dad who they were doing the photos for, but may be wary and of not being able to share all the photos due to one member not being comfortable with an online presence- which to me is a no brainer. I am not the photographer that will post photos without a model release, nor will I ever charge you extra for a non disclosure agreement. Photographs are there to understand what our lives mean to us, they are for you, not for me. If you aren’t comfortable with a full model release- fine, if you want to pre approve photos and select the ones for me to post online- that is fine too. My career as a social worker has taught me that confidentiality is everything, so please know your photos will always be safe with me.

After a few emails back and forth, and ensuring we had all 3 family units schedules coordinated with mine we headed out to Pitt Lake, BC for an amazing evening spent admiring the mountains, chasing grasshoppers, tons of giggles, snuggles and an epic sword fight, it truly was an amazing evening. Thanks for choosing me to capture your amazing crew {B} Family!

Love and wild in the Pacific North West.

I couldn’t adore this couple more! From the very first time we met for coffee in Chilliwack, BC to discuss their wedding, to our rain and hail filled engagement session, and then to our rain soaked hugs as I said goodbye after their wedding reception at Whonnock Lake- they were hands down amazing.

The love and care they have for each other and everyone around them, was overflowing.

I had the pleasure of meeting Robyn last summer when she was a bridesmaid at her best friends wedding , and then again at her brother’s wedding earlier this year and now here we are celebrating her own wedding on a gorgeous day at the Loft Country in Langley, BC. Robyn got ready at her parents home and then we headed to Loft Country for their First Look. Her wedding party all gathered around them and it was truly a beautiful moment. Some quick portraits and then off to their wedding ceremony by horse and carriage, their wedding was truly right out of a fairy tale! Ian and Robyn were surrounded by their closest family and friends on their wedding day as they celebrated their love and commitment to each other.

Make sure you have a look at Robyn’s bridal bouquet- truly one of the most AMAZING bouquets I have seen and was done by the amazing AJR Designs.

A gorgeous Fall Wedding at the picturesque Chilliwack Golf Club

the-falls-golf-course-wedding-venue

Not gonna lie it’s been a while since i completely sobbed at a wedding, shed a few tears for sure but whoa Matt and Sydnee didn’t have a dry eye at their intimate family wedding at the Chilliwack Golf Club this past week, including myself. I met them in the woods in Abbotsford, BC for their First Look and some quick wedding party photos with their family members and two closest friends. This group of people was as tight as they come… their forever bubble as I have coined it. After photos we headed to the Chilliwack Golf Club for their intimate wedding ceremony and celebration with their families the Fraser Valley's most spectacular outdoor wedding and banquet center; known as the Canex Pavilion. Despite having to drastically cut down their guest list many of their friends participated in a car parade at the Golf Course to give them their congratulations! So much love surrounds these two and just when I thought I was going to hold it together, the speeches began. I made it through the first few heartfelt congratulations and shared stories of these two amazing humans, and then the flood gates opened up. The whole room was a crying happy mess, as family member, after family member, stepped up to speak about how Matt and Sydnee have impacted their lives. Matt & Sydnee- you are loved. Truly and completely, not only by each other, but by each and everyone one of the people you choose to have a part of your lives.

Matt and Sydnee I am truly honoured that you trusted me to capture your love on this first day together as each others forever’s. Hope you are having an amazing time on your honey moon… here is a snippet of your amazing wedding day.

Vancouver Wedding Photographer | Downtown Urban Wedding Venue - The Permanent

A downtown Vancouver Rainy Wedding Day

In typical Vancouver, BC fashion the day started out overcast but in typical Vancouver fashion the sky opened up and let the rain come pouring down. This was their wedding day and they wanted it documented just as it was, rain and all. The Permanent was the perfect location to capture the Urban feel of this downtown Vancouver wedding ceremony.

Chilliwack Lake | Katy & Dustin | Chilliwack Engagement Photographer

Chilliwack Engagement Photographer

I won’t get up before sunrise for just anyone… but if it’s to capture your love story, you bet I will. I met Katy and Dustin for their gorgeous Chilliwack Lake Engagement session just before the sun came up and I’m not gonna lie it was cold, really cold but Katy & Dustin were troopers.

We spent some time chatting and exploring Chilliwack Lake before we headed down the road to do some ‘bush wacking’ as I was taught to call it as a young child. Dustin was in his element but Katy wasn’t phazed by it either as she showed us she most definitly could climb the morning dew mountain side in a dress!.

Vancouver Maternity Photographer- Buntzen Lake- Chrystal & Mike

Maternity session in Anmore, BC

I met Chrystal and Mike in August 2019 at a wedding that I was photographing when Chrystal was only a few weeks pregnant. She was so excited for the birth of their first baby and wanted to do maternity photos at a location that had amazing views. Fast forward to late Fall after wedding season was over and we met up at Buntzen Lake in beautiful Anmore, BC.

It was a beautiful but freezing cold day and Chrystal powered through our whole session despite being cold. Good thing I had my trusty hot pockets to give her to warm her hands between poses! Thanks for being such a trooper and braving the cold with me.

As it was my first time going to Buntzen Lake I didn’t know that there was no cel service!  So if you do head out there exploring make sure you know this going in… it was quite the adventure trying to find my way back to the highway after our session without my trusty google maps!

Wishing you both all the best and I can’t wait to me your sweet baby!
